Marc Bernal, a 17-year-old midfielder, has impressed in the first two games of the season and has earned praise from the Blaugrana boss.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has hailed Marc Bernal’s all-round ability as the 17-year-old midfielder impresses as Sergio Busquets’ successor, Ufabet Sport reported on Sunday. 

Bernal is just 17, having broken into the first-team squad behind fellow La Masia academy graduates Lamine Yamal and Pau Gubarsi, and has had the chance to prove himself as Busquets’ successor during pre-season, along with Marc Casado, and has overtaken his compatriot and started the first two games of the season. 

Bernal reportedly showed off his ball control and passing accuracy, completing 51 of 53 passes in the latest 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao. Throughout his first two games of the season, the 17-year-old midfielder has only lost seven of his 119 attempts.

Bernal’s performances have impressed the Barcelona faithful, who applauded him when the 17-year-old midfielder was taken off in the 83rd minute of the latest game. 

While Flick also praised the 17-year-old, saying: ‘It doesn’t matter how old Marc Bernal is. He plays well and having him as a main player today was very important.’
