Liverpool boss Arne Slot has spoken out about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role after the England right-back put in another impressive display in the 2-0 win over Brentford.
Slot, who otherwise enjoyed a dream competitive first game in charge, spoke to a clearly disappointed Alexander-Arnold on the bench after the England defender made way for Conor Bradley in the 72nd minute.
It came moments after Mohamed Salah had doubled Liverpool lead, following Luis Diaz’s opener, but Slot denied suggestions of a rift with Alexander-Arnold, who played for England at Euro 2024.
“I think Trent has a lot of qualities and one of them is to cross from the flanks. If we play him centrally he can just pass the ball and he’s good at that, but I want him to be in a position to cross dangerously.”
“We try to convince the players as much as possible before the game to tell them where to open up spaces for you to play. Nine times out of 10, the opposition do something different to us when we play against them. He has the freedom to go wherever he wants. Trent is a tough guy to play against.”
On what he expects from the team: “To be honest, I think most of the players are quite familiar with what we want, but that’s because we don’t do things too differently to what Jurgen (Klopp) does. Some of the details are a little bit different, but it’s also about Promotion Ufabet the opponents you’re playing against. Ipswich and Brentford give us a tough time, but I don’t think they’ll be in the top six this season, so we have to improve ourselves to make sure we can do it against the teams that are going to finish in the top six.”
